Alhamdulillah and congratulations on the blessed arrival of your child. Aqiqah is one of the most beautiful acts of gratitude a parent can offer to Allahۛfor the gift of a new life. As the Prophet Muhammadﷺ said, "Aqiqah is the child's rescue from Satan and protection for his/her efforts for the good of his/her life and the Hereafter." [Faid al-Qadir]. You may also wish to explore our Zakat donations.
The sacrifice involves a goat or sheep, performed on the seventh day after a child is born. It is a confirmed Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammadﷺ and an act of gratitude to Allahۛ for the blessing of a new child. The animal must be healthy and of a suitable age. At One Ummah, we source only the finest quality animals, ensuring no broken teeth or horns, in full accordance with Islamic guidelines. To learn more, visit the One Ummah website.
Performing the sacrifice carries profound spiritual rewards for your family. It serves as an act of Ibadah, offering protection for your child from Shaytan, and is also considered an atonement for the parents. It brings joy to those in need, as the meat is shared amongst family, neighbours, and those who are less fortunate. Whether you are completing the sacrifice for a boy or a girl, the act is equally rewarding and deeply meaningful.
We make it simple and straightforward for you to fulfil this Sunnah no matter where you are. One Ummah works with trusted partners on the ground to carry out the sacrifice with care and in full accordance with Islamic principles. Your donation is used with 100% efficiency, meaning every penny goes directly towards the sacrifice. To give Aqiqah for your child today, visit our Aqiqah page and select a package that suits you. Together, we can honour this blessed Sunnah and bring joy to those who need it most.
The ideal time to perform the sacrifice is on the seventh day after the birth of a child. This is based on the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammadﷺ. If the seventh day is not possible, the sacrifice can be carried out on the fourteenth or twenty-first day. Some scholars permit it at any time after birth, and many families choose to perform it when they are financially able to do so. Whatever the timing, the intention to fulfil this important Sunnah is what matters most, and Allahۛ is well aware of each person's circumstances.
There are several important rules to follow when performing the sacrifice. The animal must be a goat or a sheep, and it must be healthy, with no illness, broken bones, or obvious defects. For a baby boy, two animals are traditionally sacrificed, whilst for a baby girl, one animal is sufficient. The animal should be of a suitable age — at least one year old for a sheep, and two years old for a goat. It should not be emaciated or visibly unwell. One Ummah takes great care in selecting only the finest animals to ensure your sacrifice meets the required Islamic standards and brings full reward.
Once the sacrifice has been carried out, the meat is traditionally divided into three equal parts. One third is kept for the family, one third is given to friends and neighbours, and one third is distributed to those who are poor and in need. This practice reflects the spirit of generosity and community that is central to Islam. It is a reminder that every blessing we receive comes from Allahۛ, and that sharing those blessings with others is an act of gratitude and worship. When you give through One Ummah, we ensure that the meat reaches families who truly need it, in keeping with this blessed Sunnah.
Many Muslims choose to give their sacrifice through a trusted charity, and there are many good reasons for doing so. When you give through One Ummah, you can be confident that the sacrifice will be carried out properly, in a country where the need is greatest, and that the meat will reach families who would otherwise have very little. Our team works closely with local partners to ensure the highest standards are met at every stage. You simply make your donation, and we take care of the rest. It is a convenient, trustworthy, and deeply rewarding way to fulfil this important Sunnah from wherever you are in the world.
At One Ummah, we operate a strict 100% donation policy. This means that every single penny you donate goes directly towards your chosen cause, whether that is your sacrifice, food packs, water projects, or other charitable appeals. Our operational costs are covered separately, so your generosity is never diluted. When you give your sacrifice through One Ummah, you have complete peace of mind knowing that your donation is being used exactly as intended. This is our promise to you, and it is the foundation upon which our charity is built. Your trust is everything to us.
There is no better time than now to honour this beautiful Sunnah and show gratitude to Allahۛ for the blessing of your newborn child. Whether your child was born recently or some time ago, it is never too late to fulfil this act of worship. At One Ummah, we are here to make it easy for you. Simply choose your package, make your donation, and leave the rest to us. Your sacrifice will be carried out with care, in accordance with Islamic principles, and the meat will reach those who need it most. May Allahۛ accept your sacrifice and bless your family with health, happiness, and righteous children. Ameen.
Yes, the sacrifice can be performed for an adult who did not have it done as a child. Scholars differ on this, but many hold the view that a person may perform it for themselves at any time. If your parents were unable to perform the sacrifice for you, you may do so yourself as an act of Sunnah. Contact us if you have any questions about how to proceed. Our team is always happy to assist.
